1.) Washington Wizards - At this point the whole league will stop saying fuck the Cavs and move onto fuck the Wizards.. I mean damn can they chill out? We already talked too much about them, from now on fuck the wizards.
2.) Orlando Magic - The Magic have come out of nowhere and have taken the league by storm. We knew they were a good team but no one has foreseen this rise. And as good as the Wizards have been the Magic have been even better. They are virtually tied with the Wizards now for the best record in the league. This two horse race is going to be an interesting one and I want to see them go at it in the Eastern conference finals.. Like we mentioned in last weeks power rankings, Ray Allen has got to get some love for MVP. He has this team firing on all cylinders and is having individually a great season too.
Are the Mavs and Dirk destined for greatness or more humiliation this year?
3.) Dallas Mavericks - The Mavs have quietly took over the first seed and with their oppositions hitting road bumps the Mavs might be able to run away with the first seed. But for them it’s championship or bust. Who cares if you come in second or third, the main goal is to win it all and this could be their best shot at doing it.
4.) San Antonio Spurs - The Spurs season is starting to come off the rails. We saw some warning signs last week and now shit has hit the fan. Earlier this week league snitch “Believeland” found out that the Spurs had breached leagues rules.. And within days, league has not only fined the Spurs but also suspend star forward Tim Duncan. We just don’t know how much further the Spurs will drop but this could be another wasted season.
5.) Cleveland Cavaliers - Speaking of controversy the Cavs are a mess. And they have no one else to blame but themselves. Their decision to trade away Dan Gadzuric looks to have back fired and the team looks lost at the moment. Last weeks breaking news about someone sleeping with Lebron’s mom seems to have caused an internal issue that continues to play a role on the court. As of right now no other news has come out about who was the alleged “motherfucker” is but like we mentioned last week our insiders are on it.
6.) Houston Rockets - Another team that is starting to slip up a little are the Houston Rockets. We don’t think anyone has slept with Yao’s or Mcgrady’s mothers but still something isn’t quite right in H-Town.. We don’t know what it is but what we do know is, the Rockets need to get their act together if they want to three repeat.
Kobe in the playoffs? With help this time? Get your popcorns ready!
7.) Los Angeles Lakers – The Lakers made a big splash deal sending guard Devin Harris to their local rivals in exchange for Elton Brand. Although the move hasn’t worked out as the Lakers imagined, I think at the end they made the right move. Smaller deals they have made recently have brought much needed depth to the team and has helped them go on a small nice run of games. The Brand deal again was the right move. Similar to what the Mavs did, Harris was a luxury. And they traded him for a win now player, in a position of need. When you have players like Dirk and Kobe you can’t sit around and waste their prime years. Those superstars can win you a championship by themselves when they are in the playoffs.
8.) Seattle Supersonics – The Sonics were red hot, including an ass whipping they gave the Rockets. But as of late they have struggled mightily. I always thought they were a couple of players away from really causing any harm in the West and with Shaq aging I think it would be best for them to move on from him.
9.) Golden State Warriors - If it wasn’t for a bad TC this league would have been royally fucked. I kid you not had Jamal Crawford went up in TC instead of tanking, him and Jason Richardson by themselves would have won a championship for the Warriors. But instead they are a decent little team which may cause some havoc come playoff time but I’m not sure if they have any more upside. They don’t have much assets left to go get another star and I think the bigmen they recently picked up Zach Randolph and Chris Webber are good bigmen but not game changers.
Are the Jazz contenders or pretenders?
10.) Utah Jazz - They made a great and underrated move acquiring Jamal Mashburn but for some reason things just aren’t working out. Maybe these things take time but they better get their act together. With both the Spurs and Rockets struggling a bit the Jazz can clinch first round bye if they get rolling. After that who knows… Mashburn gives them a great third option offensively but time is ticking.
11.) Indiana Pacers - Pacers have a core they trust and they won’t make any panic moves just for the sake of it. I think it’s both smart and totally insane. Yes your a contender year in and year out but there’s a ceiling that you can’t get past. The Pacers should do something if they want to make it past the second round of the playoffs.
12.) Atlanta Hawks - Hawks started the season on a roll but have quickly dropped off into the middle of the pack. What everyone thought earlier in the season was somewhat true.. They just aren’t ready yet. I just don’t know what’s missing from this team? Is it experience? Is it another prime time player? We don’t know but next season with the Josh Smith ready to make his debut they can potentially make some noise.
13.) New Orleans Hornets - The Hornets have quietly built a very nice roster but they are still a few years away from shaking up the East. I like Gay and Williams but they still need some time. Baron Davis isn’t no scrub but he himself can’t lead this team to the promise land. Maybe their time to shine will come once Gay and Williams mature.
Most Improved Player?
14.) Chicago Bulls - When the Bulls decided to trade Kirk Hinrich for yet another big man I was puzzled by that decision… And now that decision kinda looks foolish. With Bynum, Chandler and Curry on the roster there was no need to add Biedrins. Hate playing these what if games, but a lineup of Bynum - Chandler - Deng - Gordan - Hinrich would be a great and fun team to watch for the next 5-10 years. Instead they have a overloaded front court and have youngster Jordan Farmer leading the way.. Did I mentioned Farmer is shooting 39% from the field? On a bright note though even without a point guard Ben Gordon is having an outstanding season. And he might win the most improved player award! If they can manage to bring in a veteran point guard to lead this team hey you never know.
15.) Phoenix Suns - The Suns made headline news hiring the first openly gay general manager in leagues history. But the rent boy is never around… They are talented and they have MVP caliber players but until the GM takes this seriously I think they will always be destined to become one of those “What If” teams.
16.) Denver Nuggets - This team is an enigma. I really don’t know what to make of them. One week they look like contenders and then the next they look like a lottery team. Right now they sit out of the playoffs and with youngster Carmelo Anthony ready to hit the open market the Nuggets have to do something. Making the playoffs is a must for this organization..
17.) Minnesota Timberwolves - The Western conference is a very cruel conference. These same Wolves won almost 60 games last season and now they might not even make the playoffs. Garnett like always is having a monster of a season but besides him… NADA! Maybe it’s time they ship Garnett and start anew.
Pierce is averaging 35 ppg and no one cares. FREE HIM!
18.) Boston Celtics - Team is barely hanging on for the last playoff spot in the East. And only thing we want to say is FREE PAUL PIERCE. He’s averaging nearly fucking 35 points per game and NO ONE CARES. Yikes…
19.) Los Angeles Clippers - The Clippers made a big move trading franchise player Elton Brand for youngster Devin Harris earlier this season. And many thought they would rebuild but with the acquisition of Stromile Swift they want to contend. Again I think they find themselves in the middle and don’t know which direction to go. They sit 4 games out of the playoff spot and their backcourt is talented enough to make up that difference the question is will they?
20.) Philadelphia 76er - Where are they going?
21.) Sacramento Kings - After years of neglect the Kings finally got a new general manager andddddddddd he’s gone. This team has alot of potential but without a captain they are doomed to just keep floating in the sea.
Carter needs to force his way out of Toronto if he wants to secure his legacy.
22.) Toronto Raptors - Do they have a superstar? Yes they do but besides him what else is there? Chris Bosh is good young player but this team needs to decide either rebuild or go all in with their two franchise players. And when I say go all in I’m talking about potentially gambling and trading one of their future picks for a win now player. I keep saying it over and over again when you have a superstar DONT WASTE HIS PRIME YEARS..
23.) Miami Heat - Ohh man I want to say a lot of stuff but I rather not. Joe Johnson isn’t that bad of a player but man they would be in a much better situation if they had kept Dwayne Wade. Superstars are soooooo hard to come by in this league and although Joe Johnson is no scrub he arguably has already hit his peak. Where I think Dwayne Wade has still more room to grow…
24.) Detroit Pistons – Man life comes at you fast.. One day you’re the eastern conference champs and then the next moment you are out of the playoffs wondering what’s next. They keep going back and forth between rebuilding and contending. They need to make a decision and stick with it no matter what or they will be in a quagmire for years!
25.) Memphis Grizzlies – The Grizzlies have tried to recover from the Pau Gasol fiasco but so far haven’t found the right players to get things going. They traded away Stromile Swift
for some decent youngster. If they manage to pick up another youngster in this years draft the light at the end of the tunnel seems a little brighter.
26.) Portland Blazers – This is kinda of the area where you don’t want to be. Too good to be at the bottom of the league but bad enough not even to make the playoffs.
27.) New Jersey Nets – Just not sure where the Nets are going to be completely honest with you. Yes unlike some of the other teams in this area the Nets have a young exciting center piece but besides that what else do they have going?
28.) New York Knicks – Knicks got a new GM and he has done a great job of clearing house. Their cap situation isn’t as bad as it was and they have a couple of young players that can continue to grow. If they can draft a impact player in the draft and sign a couple of free agents the Knicks could be up and contending sooner rather than later.
Just in case you need it Buck fans..
29.) Milwaukee Bucks – The Bucks had a really rough off-season and have decided that rebuilding is the way to go. Losing two players like the caliber they lost has set back the Bucks for years… Yes Shaq was old and Redd is a good player but losing them without getting back any compensation was a killer. Hopefully this year the can nab a good talent in the draft so they can start the rebuild on a good note.
2.) Orlando Magic - The Magic have come out of nowhere and have taken the league by storm. We knew they were a good team but no one has foreseen this rise. And as good as the Wizards have been the Magic have been even better. They are virtually tied with the Wizards now for the best record in the league.
